Year: 2024

Waitangi Day

For the last week in reading, we have been learning about Waitangi Day. Waitangi day is when the British first came to New Zealand and made and agreement with the Māori. They created a Treaty in a hui/meeting set in Waitangi, Bay of Islands, North Island of New Zealand. We did a taskboard about the Treaty of Waitangi which has 8 activities on it but we were allowed to only do 1 task. I chose a task called Waitangi Quiz, and it was about making your/my own Waitangi Quiz. The Blooket Quiz, you have to either host it yourself or press solo.

All About Me

To start this year, I made an All about me slideshow. I started it on Friday and finished it today at home. I created it using this programme called Canva. Because this is Canva, you have to click on the slideshow. The outcome of my slideshow came like this.

How would you like to present your All about me?

SLJ Connecting with your Whenua – Kick Start

This afternoon, I have done this task of Connecting with your Whenua – Kick Start.

Learn: I watched a video on some of Aotearoa’s/New Zealand’s amazing beauty – which I could find out walking.

Create: I went on a walk that shares the beauty of my whenua/land and made a photo collage of my walk.

Share:

I had the most fun jumping into the water and collecting pebbles which made both my favourite thing in this activity. I designed this using Canva, and the place I went to was called Waimakariri Gorge. I went today because we randomly drove past so we stopped by.

2 Facts on this location:

  1. There was (and still is) a bridge (but is not seen in the photos) and the height of the Waimakariri Gorge bridge is 30m.
  2. The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge was built in The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge was built in 1876 by William Stocks. by William Stocks which was 148 years ago.

Where is the land you are connected to?

SLJ Fun Art @ PM

Today I did this task called Fun Art @ PM.

Learn: I watched a video of 2 parrots with 1 side of an earbud each, listening to music. I learnt it was called anthropomorphism.

Create: I made a anthropomorphized character by adopting the image of “Duck Trump” to show the idea of anthropomorphism, and put “The New York Times” at the top with Duck Drumpf as it’s name at the bottom.

Share:

I found it very easy to do as it was a matter of adding Donald Trump and Donald Duck together. What I liked most on this task was having the idea of Donald (duck) on Donald Trump’s clothes. Originally, I had the idea of making something like my friend’s Donald Ruff, the dog.

Can you think of any blends that may be liked?

SLJ Fun Art @ AM

Today I did this task called Fun Art @ AM.

Learn: I watched a video of turning leaves into DIY fun artworks.

Create: I made a nature object, removed the background using remove.bg, put it onto google drawings, and made a character out of it. I turned it into a goat/sheep.

Share:

I found it real easy to do as it was a matter of making art. What I liked most on this task was making it a goat/sheep. Originally, I tried to make a mushroom.

What would/do you turn a piece of leftover nature into?

SLJ Hybrid Sports Step It Up

Today I did this task called Hybrid Sports Step It Up.

Learn: I saw some examples of hybrids e.g. Chess Boxing.

Create: In the last activity, I made my own game. Now, it is for me to make the rules up.

Share: These are my rules in the following:

  1. 1 person is the tagger. The tagger has to aim at other people to get them out with a shuttle(shuttlecock).
  2. If you get hit, the tagger picks up the shuttlecock and aims again. For elimination, you are out.
  3. If the shuttlecock misses, the nearest person collects it and becomes the tagger.
  4. The tagger must say freeze when he/she has got the shuttle for accurate aiming.
  5. The tagger must stay where the the shuttle lands.
  6. You must stay frozen after freeze is called.
  7. The last person standing is the winner.
  8. The tagger must serve the shuttle to tag.
  9. You need a minimum of 2 people but no maximum number of people. The more, the merrier.
  10. You can play it indoor or outdoor.

What other hybrid sports can you think of that nobody may have taken yet?

SLJ Hybrid Sports Kick Start

Today, I did a task of Hybrid Sports.

Learn: I saw some examples of Hybrid Sports. Examples were Disc Golf (Frisbee + Golf), Pickle Ball (Badminton + Table Tennis/Ping Pong + Tennis), and Water Polo (Hand Ball + Swimming).

Create: I made my own Hybrid Sport. It is called Shuttle Tag, with the mixtures of Badminton and Tag.

Share:

I played it with my friends who also play Badminton with me. I had great fun playing with them. My favourite was obviously playing the game.

What kind of hybrid game would you like to play?

SLJ Human Sundial Kick Start

Today, I did an activity named Human Sundial, also related to another post plus kick start to my previous post.

Previous post: https://nbcisam.edublogs.org/2024/01/16/slj-sundial-step-it-up/

Learn: I watched some examples of Human Sundials.

Create: I made my own Human Sundial. I used chalk, my mum, and me.

Share:

I made it by drawing a circle, stepping inside the centre of the circle, and my mum draw my shadow every hour. I loved this activity as it was simple, easy, and a head start for me. My favourite part was eating a peach while the shadow was being drawn. A fact: Did you know that as the sun moves across the sky, the shadow changes which tells us the time it’s currently is. Also, a Sundial cannot be used in the nighttime as they are no sun there. The moon is not enough light to create a shadow to tell the time for us.

Where would you prefer to set out your human sundial?

SLJ Sundial Step It Up

This afternoon, I found out the task was making a sundial.

Previously, I did a task of my own related to another activity of the SLJ and basically is the same as this activity. The title to “SLJ Sundial Step It Up(Shadow Art Step It Up Extension)”

This time, it now officially is a real SLJ activity.

Here is a picture of it again. The background is AI.

SLJ Laser Maze Challenge Step It Up

This morning, there was a new task I did to start the day.

Learn: I watched a video of a Laser Maze with rope outdoors.

Create: I was supposed to make a Laser Maze outdoors but due to a few reasons, I was not able to make it outside. I made it in the hallway of my house.

  1. It was raining outside.
  2. My chicken/duck would ruin it immediately.

Share:

I used cello tape to stick it to the wall. I also stuck a tiny bead on the end door as finish. It is not a real button, so the goal is to touch the bead without touching the  laser beams or in this case, string/rope. I enjoyed this activity as I like dodging around. My favourite part of the activity was doing it again and again. It didn’t take much practice to master it, but I love doing it over and over.

Where would you like your maze to be set?
