Ash Wednesday

Yesterday at New Brighton Catholic School, we celebrated Ash Wednesday as a mass in the church and celebrated new families into our school during the mass. Ash Wednesday is the 1st day of Lent where we are marked a cross on the forehead with ashes. Lent is the time to turn back to God, to start fresh. Lent is also when Jesus stays in the desert for 40 days, which is the time Lent lasts for. To celebrate the welcoming of new families, the kapa haka crew did a few haka outside the church. To celebrate Ash Wednesday, we all had ashes on our foreheads in the marking of the cross, marked by either Miss Daines, our principal, Fr Ben, our priest, Miss Buckley, the principal’s assistance, Mrs. Gannaway, our DRS. Fr Ben leads our mass and is really interesting because he goes “God is good” and we have to respond with “All the time” or when he goes “And all the time”, we have to respond with °God is good”.
