POOP 💩

On Wednesday afternoon, I went to an afterschool library event and we made tote bags using the Direct to Garment printer which is just a Fabric printer. One side of the tote bag had to include the 3 elements; illustration, text, and collage. So I did a picture of and emoji poop, hand free drawing, the word POOP, and a few chickens I found on some old books we were allowed to use with all the chickens’ bottoms facing the poop and 1 enormous cropped chicken bottom also facing the poop. I drew the word POOP in bubble letters to make the cool effect. On the other side, you could choose to do whatever you want, and I chose to draw my first name in bubble letters and last name in book letters I found and glued. We scanned our artworks, printed it out, and made the final outcome. If not for the cutoff date, I could of also get an 1 hour stamp in my passport for the Children’s University. This is what it looked like in the finished form.

A Dream Come True

On the morning on the Canterbury Anniversary Day (also known as Show Day), I dreamt of seeing heaps of little ducklings that has been hatched in the incubator. In the morning when I woke up, I checked the incubator and saw 5 little ducklings with 2 more peeping in their shells. The incubator was jamming full of little ducklings, making me having a surprised start to the day. Later on the day, the last 2 ducklings came out while in the other incubator had hatching quail eggs. 2 came out as a surprise as it was my first time hatching quails from our quails. The ducklings were cute and sleepy, you could hold them like a gorgeous sleeping little beauty.

Travel to Antarctica!

On the past Tuesday, the year 5 – 8 had a chance to visit Antarctica with the Antarctic Heritage Trust (AHT) and the VRs (Virtual Reality). The AHT came in and taught us all about Scott Base in Antarctica, where Sir Edmond Hillary, a famous New Zealand mountaineer and explorer, used to stay for an amazing adventure with Dr Vivian Fuchs, the British team. Ann, a worker for the AHT, came in to our school for all this adventure and to try inspire us to learn more about Antarctica. The year 4 got to watch but they weren’t allowed to wear the VR headset as they were too young.

I really enjoyed playing with it through I have done it before for the Children’s University at Linwood Library in previous years, my favourite thing used to be the whisker in the VR headset and still is now. I found the whisker my favourite because you press it and it will make some whisker noise while move the whisker like an actual one.

Athletics Zones

On Tuesday, half of the senior school went to athletics zones. This is when we verse other schools (Queenspark, Parkview, South New Brighton, Rawhiti, Marshland, Christchurch East, Wairakei, New Brighton Catholic) aim to be top 2 again for the Canterburys. We got into zones by being top 2 in any event during the school athletics which would of happened earlier. Being top 2 applies to every and each event. I got into zones for 1,000 meters Long Distance Run and Long Jump. I found it nervous on the day because I have never been to zones before but I also found it fun especially with my friends around, both from my school and from other schools. For the 1,000 meters Long Distance Run, my friend from my school, Despina, came 6th place and I followed behind her which made me 7th place. For Long Jump, I had a few turns that were foul but I don’t know what place I had come. I didn’t get into Canterburys but I had heaps of fun on the day. Our mascot also came with us, and it was my pet duckling Cloudy.

Do you like athletics and what athletics event is your favourite?

Being Different

Today, we have been learning about being different and being accepting. We watched a video of a picture book called Accepting is our Superpower. After watching that, we all had to create a poster of 4 things that makes us ourselves. I chose to do it on a 4 leaf clover/shamrock. This is the finished outcome of my poster.

How would you present it differently or similarly?

Writing Term 4

For the start of term, we have been learning and writing about action verbs. Our teacher gives us a few words and we have to turn it into a sentence or more. Today’s words was shimmied, swayed, and jiving. This is my sentence including all 3 of the words.

I shimmied at a disco dance party but I tripped and everyone who was jiving and swaying fell like dominos.

If you could edit to improve my sentence, what would you do?

A Revenge with Toys

During this term, we have to write a story based on a picture our teacher gave us. The picture is of these toys all over the stairwell. I called it ¨A Revenge with Toys.¨ I found it pretty easy to write. This is the story I wrote.

A Revenge with Toys…

Something is afoot. The toys have been gathered and their owners have plans, but are they for good or evil…

Use the narrative plan to help you collect your ideas and then write your story. Remember all those rules we covered during our editing and revision learning.

Start your writing here:

Once, there was a house of 100 girls who always got teased by their older cousin, Jack, who goes to the same school. Getting hurt is no fun at all.

So one day, they gathered up to have a meeting. They all wanted this to stop. They chatted all day long, trying to come up with a plan.

They would pretend to have heard nothing when anything mean that would come from the mouth of whom they call an ugly face. Mean words slowly turned to nothing but smoke. Or they would stunt him with a prank.

When the weekend came, Jack was invited to their house again by their parents. When they heard this, they mustered into position.

Jack approached the stairwell with his own plan to hurt the girls but, BOOM, they suddenly poured lots of toys down the stairwell. Their plan had worked! That did the trick.

Nobody was hurt but he was just shocked and surprised. After he recovered from his fright, he ran away, screaming for home.

Jack then built a rocket and launched himself into space. Nobody knew where he had ended, so to be continued or rather the end.

Can you imagine having a stairwell full of toys like that?

Alice in Putterland

On Tuesday as a class reward, Room 1 went to Alice in Putterland to play mini golf. We started at different courses but we all had a chance of getting a turn of each one. Beau was the winner for the boys and Zara-Mao was the winner for the girls. At the end, we got a lollipop each and a colouring page to take home. These are some of the photos of me.

Do you know how to play mini golf?

Term 3 Maths

This term for maths, the Rectangles and Squares have been learning about multiplication with double digits. A way to solve the question is to break it down. Say what if 6×59=, you break it down by going 6×50=300 because 6×5= then add 0 at the end. Then you go 6×9=54, you then add your answers together and you have the answer which in this case, is 354. We had to make an explained way on a digital tool. This is mine.

Do you have another way of solving this?

Face Moods

Yesterday, we started doing activities based in the movie Inside Out. Our activity was to make a 4 by 4 table of faces that are all different emotions. At least 4 of the faces was to be your own face. I loved this activity because I found it easy, fun and I did it real quick. For the 1st 4 of them, I took a picture of myself in different moods them I used my chromebook emojis to make the rest. This is what it looked like when I finished.

How do you look like in different emotions?
