SLJ The Rainbow Fish – Step it up

Yesterday, there was this task called The Rainbow Fish – Step it up.

Learn: I watched and learnt how you can use the explore tool to find coloured textures for the rainbow fish.

Create: I made a Rainbow fish collage on google drawings. I made it from a template but it was a blank sheet only that it had instructions.

Share:

This task I loved doing as it was very easy and fun. The fun of it was placing the rainbow colours.

What is your favourite thing in the underwater world?

SLJ Build a Plane Kick Start

Previously, I did this task named Build a Plane Kick Start.

Learn: I watched a video of How to make a Cardboard Plane.

Create: I made my own plane using corflute and paper. A rubber band was included for launching.

Share:

I enjoyed this activity less as it was very challenging. It was more challenging because you had to plan it through and you also had to calculate the wings so it flies.

Which type of air planes are your favourite?

SLJ The Rainbow Fish – Kick Start

This morning, I did the task of The Rainbow Fish – Kick Start.

Learn: I watched a picture book story called The Rainbow Fish. The story was about a fish who wouldn’t share at the start but shared all his beautiful scales at the end apart from 1 for himself.

Create: I created a Rainbow Fish collage using paper, recycled bottle tops, and a pencil to draw.

Share:

My favourite part of this activity was finding the colour/s for my rainbow fish. I really enjoyed this activity because I found it as one of the easiest activities to do.

What is the colour of the type of fish do you like the best?

SLJ Anemone is not the Enemy: Step It Up

Today, I completed this activity of Anemone is not the Enemy: Step It Up.

Learn: I watched a Anemone how to draw video and learnt how to draw a Anemone.

Create: I drew my own Anemone as I watched the video.

Share:

My favourite part of this activity was colouring it. I really enjoyed this activity as I love art.

3 fun facts on Anemone that I learnt:

  1. There was such thing that existed called Anemone.
  2. Anemones can sting you with it’s tiny thorns and poison.
  3. They live in rock pools.
  4. Plus, another fun fact, they are related to jellyfish and coral as both are not fishes, so that makes them not fishes.

Which creatures, do you think, should live in rock pools?

SLJ Anemone is not the Enemy: Kick Start

Today, I completed this task of Anemone is not the Enemy: Kick Start.

Learn: I watched a story of Anemone is not the Enemy learnt from a video of what was in a rock pool.

Create: I made my own rock pool. The materials I used were stones from my garden, a tub I found inside my house, and Latte, my duckling I hatched.

Share:

My favourite part was catching Latte. I really enjoyed this activity as it was easy and fun to do.

Fun fact on Latte (or any ducklings): Did you know you can train them by awarding them with heaps of treats they like? They’ll come up to you IMMEDIATELY!

What would you put in a rock pool?

SLJ Notan Art in Google Drawings – Step It Up

Yesterday, I did a task called Notan Art in Google Drawings – Step It Up. Like the last task,  It was about Notan Art, which is a Japanese style of art, making colour contrast by only having the colours black and white. But this task is not just creating your own Notan art, but to create a themed Notan art. By creating a themed Notan art, it’s like for an example, Disney, you use the Notan strategy on say Mickey’s head. I used a template which is the same startup as the last one, and the requirement was to at least have something on each side of the square. Can you tell what was my theme?

Answer: Hello Kitty/Dear Daniel.

What theme would you do as your favourite theme?

SLJ Notan Art in Google Drawings – Kick Start

Yesterday, there was this task called Notan Art in Google Drawings – Kick Start and I did it. It was all about Notan Art, which is a Japanese style of art, making colour contrast by only having the colours black and white. I made a copy of the template, which was just a black square in the centre + the rest white to start off with, but then you fill it out with your shapes and there, your Notan art would be ready. That type of art can be symmetrical in balance, or asymmetrical in balance. First, I did a black & white Notan, then I made a rainbow one by copying the black & white one and changed the colours so now, there is a rainbow one. These are my Notans.

Fun fact on Japanese Notan art: Did you know it’s values are just colour contrast; in its more liberal form, black, white, and a mid-tone as example. It may be often seen as black and white, but there can be others, e.g. red and blue. Also, another fun fact, Nōtan (濃淡) is Japanese for “light-dark harmony.”

What type of art do you have in your culture?

SLJ Code or Cipher Step It Up

Yesterday afternoon, I did an activity called Code or Cipher Step It Up. Like the last task, it was still on Code or Ciphers but this time, I had to solve a basic fact one and grid code one. The basic facts one is where you have to decode the message by figuring out the answer to the equation and that number will be a letter unless the answer was wrong. The grid one is where you are given coordinates of a grid as that will be a letter and figure out the message. I solved another few, made an emoji Code or Cipher and made a message relating to the question to ‘my favourite SLJ activity so far’. Also, I think it is talking about this year. Plus, I challenge you to solve it.

Which of my activities do you think is the best?

SLJ Code or Cipher Kick Start

This morning, the task I did was called Code or Cipher but I did it in the afternoon. Both Code or Cipher are secret messages passing around through your team. I used a template and inside, there was a dictionary of a few words, an atabash plus pig pen explanations. An atabash is when a becomes z, b becomes y and so on. Basically, one row goes abc… and the other which is underneath goes zyx… which is just flipping, I guess. A pig pen is a tic tac toe/knots and crosses with alphabets on it, a big cross with another few, and the same thing but with dots on it. I solved a few and made my own Code or Cipher relating to the question of ‘two favourite places’ using atabash at the end. I challenge you to solve it.

How did you go? What did you get right? Also, where is your favourite place?

SLJ Summer Chat Story Step It Up

Previously, I had done this task called Summer Chat Story. It is Step It Up to another activity I have done called Silhouette Art. This was about creating a story on what you/I did or are going to do in the Summer Holidays and also using some emojis to replace some words. The emojis could be some of the pictures on the template but I deleted them when I was finished. So what I did was make a copy of a template, get inspired by an example, create my own and share it. This is how it looks.

What would you like to do in the holidays?
