Dancing

This term, the year 6 has dancing like the stars but the year 5 don’t. So instead of dancing like the stars, we did our own dance. First, we made an introduction about ourselves. Second, we explored some dances and made a Venn Diagram on 2 dances we choose. Then we start learning the dance we choose. I choose to do Greek dancing with my friend Despina. After a lot of practice, we filmed ourselves to show what we did. Last of all, we did a reflection on how we could make the dance better for next time and how we liked our dances. All of the work turned into a slideshow. This is what I did.

Do you know any other Greek dances?

Duffy Books

This morning, we had a Duffy role model come into our school for a visit. His name was Ray Bishop and he talked about how he loved singing. He sung a song called ‘‘Nothing is Impossible’’ and taught us how he tells children to chase after your dreams. Some of us got to share what our dreams are but most of us didn’t get to share. Ray also told us about how much he loved reading when he was about our age, to be precise, 5. Almost ½ of the school got to perform a haka for Ray. There was also another supporter for our Duffy books called Avonhead Rotary. After all that, we went back to our classrooms and then we got our Duffy books we choose in Term 1. I choose and got 2 books, they were Owl Diaries Nature Club and Geronimo Stilton Mouse vs Wild. This is a picture of Ray talking.

He has lots of albums as he writes a song everyday, have you heard any of his songs before?

Finding Fractions

Yesterday, for maths, my group and I learnt about finding fractions.

I solved it with a formula which was n ( t ÷ d ) = a.

In the formula, n = numerator, t = total, d = denominator and a = answer.

So for example, to find ¾ of 100, the calculation would be 3 ( 100 ÷ 4 ) = 75, which is the answer.

Do you know other ways to find fractions?

Tinker Club – Making a Matariki Quiz

Yesterday at New Brighton Library, they have a club I go to called Tinker Club. It is where you can dismantle, rebuild, create and experiment things. So as for yesterday, we made quizzes where you have to match one thing to the other side. I made a Matariki quiz because Matariki is coming up so I can bring it to school for others to learn about. Another reason I chose Matariki was because nobody choose to do Matariki. While making the Matariki quiz, I used the soldering iron, wires, scissors, wire stripper, metal split pin paper fasteners, masking tape, boxes, LED lights, resister, the quiz (printed and laminated) and battery. The light will glow green if you get the answer correct but will not glow if you got the matching wrong. This is what I made at New Brighton Library.

Have you ever made one of these before?

School Fun Run

Yesterday, we did the School Fun Run where we had different rotations ending with a Colour Run.  My class and Room 2 started with the Gauntlet Run. You had to run along and do activities like throwing bean bags into the box and dodging balls the parents were throwing. I got 4 ticks on that activity. Next was the Obstacle Course. In the Obstacle Course, you needed to go under the net, over the hay bales, over the hurdles, over another lot of hay bales, over the couchiney thing, over the line between the cones and over the tree stumps. My teacher gave me 5 ticks for that. Third was the Cross Country Run where you had to run three times. That was my favourite. I almost came first but still ended in coming second. Last out of the rotations was the Treasure Hunt. You had to find the hidden balls. I didn’t like it because I only found one. Last of all was the Colour Run. I couldn’t participate the Colour Run for I had Contact Lenses as well as I also had swimming after. If I went in the Colour Run and did swimming, there would be Code Rainbow instead of Code Brown or Code Green. I saw others rubbing eyes and spitting chalk powder while I myself stayed clean. These are some of the pictures of the activities.

What thing do you like?
