2023 Arthur’s Pass Camp
SC: Teamwork, be independent, experiencing camp
On Wednesday 22nd of February, the Year 5 went to Arthur‘s Pass for camp. First, we met up with the Year 6 in the dining room. After that, we had our bunk beds and rooms. We got changed and went outside. Everyone except me had to borrow from Alex who works at Arthur‘s Pass.
We walked in the freezing cold rain. I tried to avoid getting wet but everybody just kept splashing in the puddles during the walk on the Devil’s Punchbowl trail. I found the walk challenging at first because my bag was very heavy. I got my mum to carry my bag to make it easy for me.
The trail led us to the waterfall. I found it easy coming back. I was wet but not as wet as others. We all changed back into dry clothes in our bunk rooms and had dinner. I took my contact lenses and said goodbye to everyone.
I went home at bedtime and arrived at home around midnight. I brushed my teeth, had my eye drops and went to sleep. I also had school in the morning since it was only a day trip for me. Here is a photo of when we were listening to Alex in the dining room. The 2nd photo is me in the same photo.

Learning with Harold
Last week, we went to Harold´s classroom. We learnt about feelings with Harold. 6 people had a role which was Hugh, Lucas, Koby, Stella, Kiara and Ella. Hugh was the Stinker Thinker, Lucas was the juggler, Koby was the balloon pumper, Stella was a girl in a story, Kiara was the Guard Dog and finally Ella was the wise owl. I was in the audience with the rest of my class watching. I learnt about how Guard Dog makes us out of control and wise owl calms us down. Do you know any other facts about our brain?
SLJ: Tangram
I choose a boat to represent summer because you wouldn’t go fishing in winter. You also would prefer to sail under the warm sun rather than in the ice, cold and rainy weather.
SLJ: Longest Name
I think these names are long and tricky to say. I found it interesting to learn different definition from its name. I also found it interesting to learn different languages from their names.
SLJ: Invisible Ink
Kick start
I decided to choose this activity because it looked fun. I tried it with onion and milk.
The onion turned out to be better because when it drys up, you can´t see what I have drawn. But when you cook it, it turns brown without having it burnt and it smells gooooood.
With the milk, you can see the trace where I have drawn on the paper after it drys up. Also it took longer to dry the invisible milk ink and longer to show.
